What is your name?
Amy Woods
How old are you?
17
How long have you been skating?
Just under two years.
What inspired you to start skating?
Honestly don’t even know think I was just bored and decided to take my old penny board to a skate park one day and fell in love with it.
Who is your favourite skater and why?
There’s too many to chose from, I really like a lot of the top female park skaters. It’s so great to see other girls skating at such a high level, they’re such an inspiration to me and so many other girls in skating.
What is your dreams as a skater?
To just keep enjoying it and having fun, I also want to enter more comps as the experience is really fun and hopefully I’ll progress at the same time. I really hope that I can encourage other girls to start skating because skating is just the best thing ever and I love to see the girl skate scene growing.
Where do you like skating most? And why?
I mainly skate at skaterham at the moment because I love the vert, I also spend a lot of time at baysixty6 and Crystal Palace which are great. I like travelling around and skating different parks too, it’s always really fun skating somewhere new.
What shoes do you skate and why have you chosen that brand?
At the moment I have a pair of Nike sbs, no particular reason other than that they were ones I liked in my size that I could get at a decent price on Vinted.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?
I have no idea honestly, I would say the time I got knocked out was the funniest in skating, but I don’t know if other people would really have my sense of humour about that.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years time?
Not a clue to be honest but I’ll hopefully still be skating :)
Are your parents supportive toward your skating?
Yeah my mum has spent a lot of time and money to take me all over the country for competitions which I’m really grateful for although she does make me get the bus to skaterham :(
If you had a skateboard graphic with your name on it what would you choose?
Don’t really know probably would be really bright and colourful with green, purple, pink and blue. Maybe a pattern with dinosaurs on it or something.
Do you think skate schools benefit your skating and your progress or do you think you learn more on your own?
Definitely both, skate schools can really help me progress by giving me tips and inspiration as well as making friends, but at the same time it’s nice to have sessions where I can just skate and do my own thing.
What would you like to say to any other girls who are reading your interview?
I would say to just keep skating and enjoying it, sometimes it can feel like you’re surrounded by men. The girl skate scene is constantly growing and it’s so great to see so keep going and hopefully one day there will be as many women skating as men. Also it’s really great to skate and make friends with other girls, if you can try to go to girls only events, everyone is always so encouraging and friendly:)
