Parent and Child #10

Hi what is your name and whose parent are you?  Agne, Cynthia’s mum.

How long has your child been skating?  Cynthia started her second group of lessons on Sunday. But she never had skateboarded before. So 6 weeks pretty much.

What do you think about them skateboarding? Are you not worried they might hurt themselves?

I think it’s great to see all the kids get involved and trying do the tricks and balance. Cynth was quite shy in the beginning but with Tom’s encouragement, she is getting there. Oh Im always worried she may trip, fall, break something because she is quite fearless and just goes for it. I had to really push my negotiation skills to ensure she wears protective gear though 😄😄

What got your child into skateboarding?

To be honest, I grew up around skateboarders so it’s always been close to my heart. And when i saw the post about possible classes, oh my god, i thought she must try it! It’s great fun! I guess it is also kind of continuity of my childhood memories (watching my friends rip it around the place 😂) and it’s not only a great sport and activity but also an opportunity to make friends and learn about being part of a pretty cool community 😉

Do you think it’s a positive pastime? Even with all the stigma surrounding skateboarding?  Absolutely! I dont really care about stigmas as i dont see it in that way. Real skaters dont cause trouble but rather just they’re trying to refine those tricks 😉

What do you think of Tom the Tic Tac Skate Coach? And how has his presence helped your child regarding skateboarding? Tom is very very patient! And he knows how to communicate with kids, all different ages.  My Cynth still has shy moments but Tom knows how to get her out of that shyness. I appreciate that he shows that attention to each person in the class which is really important, he is kind of a role model, isnt it?

Can you imagine not being around skateboarding you or your child now?  Oh no, never. I would’ve put her on that skateboard sooner or later! 😄 so now we’ve started attending classes, cant imagine Sunday morning without getting to Ascot ( oh and Cynth’s royal wave goodbye, from day one 😂😂 - we cant leave without doing it!)

What do you think you could contribute to the Tic Tac skate school?

I think if there is anything that we could help Tom or the school, yes , we are up for it.

What valuable life skills do you think your child has learnt from skateboarding? If at first you dont succeed, dust yourself and try again as Practice makes perfect. Also as i said above, you learn about being friendly, supportive to each other, and developing that cohesive community feeling.
